Does A First Class Ticket Get Access To Delta Sky Lounge?

Can First Class Ticket Enter the Delta Sky Club?

Leaving nothing to chance, when you book your ticket with Delta Air Lines and you are flying for the first time, you are in for a treat. Some privileges that come with this status are priority check-in and security, boarding, wider and comfortable seats, quality and separate meals and free drinks including alcohol. But even if one buys a first class ticket, this does not automatically qualify him/her for the Delta Sky Club Lounges. Does a first class ticket mean you get into Sky Club?

The answer is no. The first class ticket holder does not automatically become a member of the Delta Sky Club lounges. Sky Club is a network of Delta Airlines that includes over 50 airport lounges in different cities and countries where passengers can relax, work, have a snack or meal, etc. To access the Sky Club, one has to pay membership fees or pay per use on a daily basis.

There are three main ways to get into the Delta Sky Club lounge with a first-class ticket:

  1. Buy an Annual Membership or a Single Visit Sky Club Membership
  2. Be a holder of the Delta SkyMiles American Express Card with Lounge Access
  3. About Delta Airlines Delta Airlines is one of the leading flight carriers that operates its services across the United States of America and other international destinations.

It is now appropriate that we discuss each of these options in more detail.

You should make a purchase of the Sky Club Membership.

The Delta Sky Club is an airport lounge run by Delta Airlines with premium services and cocktail bar, and is not open to Delta ticket holders at no extra cost or free of charge, except to Delta’s most loyal frequent flyers, the Medallion members. The only sure method of getting in with any ticket, including first class tickets is to have membership.

There are two main Sky Club membership options:

Annual Membership – $ 545 per year Single Visit Day Pass – $39 per person per location

The annual membership permits you to have as many visits to the Sky Club as you wish plus two guests if you are accompanied by them. The single visit pass allows only you to access the lounge for the entire day at one location of the club.

In other words, having a paid Sky Club membership allows you to access any Delta Sky Club, irrespective of the class of your ticket or your SkyMiles membership status. They would then be allowed anytime they have a Delta flight for first class ticket holders only.

Be a Delta SkyMiles American Express Card member with lounge access

Co-branding is a strategic relationship between Delta Airline and American Express, where the two entities’ credit cards are linked. Some of the Delta SkyMiles American Express cards include the following, and they offer free access to the Sky Club.

The cards that offer this perk are:

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card Delta SkyMiles Platinum AMEX Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card

As the primary cardholder, you can access all Sky Club lounges when you have a Delta flight that is ticketed for the same day even if you are a coach passenger. You can also bring two guests for $39 per person.

So if you possess any of these cards, both you and anybody you are traveling with can enter the Sky Club with your first class ticket.

Be a Delta SkyMiles Diamond or Platinum Medallion Member

Delta has a loyalty program called the Medallion Elite Status Program in which they target their most frequent and loyal customers.

The higher Medallion tiers receive Sky Club lounge access:

Diamond Medallion Members: Gives club access for the member plus up to two guests, or other members of the same household. Platinum Medallion Members: Receives club privileges for member only

Delta SkyMiles, Diamond and Platinum are achieved after accruing many Delta miles and Medallion Qualification Dollars in a given calendar year.

If you have been booking many first-class tickets on the Delta already, then you are likely to reach the Diamond or Platinum Medallion status naturally. This then gives you access to the Sky Club on your first-class flights.

As it was previously discussed, First Class Ticket Holders cannot access some of the services offered at the Sky Club.

While first-class passengers cannot access the Sky Club on their ticket alone, there are some other restrictions to keep in mind even if you have entry via one of the above options:While first-class passengers cannot access the Sky Club on their ticket alone, there are

some other restrictions to keep in mind even if you have entry via one of the above options:

International First Class Passengers: Delta One Suites and Delta One ticket customers are not allowed to access Sky Clubs on arrival or departure when they are traveling internationally. The only exception to this rule is if you also have a paid membership with the site.

Non-Delta Flights: Unfortunately, Sky Club membership, credit card lounge access, or even Medallion status does not apply to flights unless operated by Delta that same day. Another possible restriction is that when flying on another airline, you cannot access the Delta lounges.

Some Sky Club locations: Some of the hubs may restrict the access of the club to paid-only members during busy periods to avoid overcrowding. Diamond and Platinum Medallions could then be denied entry.

In Conclusion

Traveling by flight in first class has its own benefits that make your trip more enjoyable, especially when you have booked your flight with Delta. However, passengers do not get access to Delta’s Sky Club airport lounges by merely possessing a first-class ticket. To access the lounges before your flight, you need to have one of the following: Delta Sky Club membership, a Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card that comes with access to lounges, or Delta SkyMiles® Diamond or Platinum Medallion membership status. Selecting one of these options guarantees that you can maximize your first-class experience.
