What are the new Delta Sky Club rules for 2024?

Delta Reveals New Sky Club Policies Effective as of 2024

The recently released list of changes to Delta Airlines ’ Sky Club airport lounge program will be effective January 1, 2024. The changes in the rules of the new Sky Club are meant to minimize crowding problems as well as give extra value and privilege to the high level of Delta frequent fliers.

The Membership membership fee is increasing.

Perhaps the most significant change is that individual memberships will cost $695 for one year of membership as opposed to $545 for the previous year. To provide some perspective, Delta has not increased the annual membership fee for the Sky Club since 2014, so in going from $595 to $760, the fee hike is now 27% higher than it was a decade ago. The renewal fees for the existing members will not be as high in 2024 as the bills suggest; in fact, the renewal fee will remain the same as before.

The increase in the number of members is due to the following: This is to address the problems experienced in the recent past when the number of Sky Club members grew rapidly, which led to a compromise of member capacity in the lounges. Delta has said that it doesn’t want to overcrowd the Sky Club experience, which is why the number of lounges is limited. The higher fee will assist in keeping the number of members manageable so clubs are not taken to their limit of comfortable operation.

The new playing field: announcing the launch of a new ‘‘VIP’’ tier for true frequent fliers.

Delta has recently announced a new level of Sky Club membership to be called “VIP” to be offered to the airline’s most loyal customers only. To attain VIP status, customers must fly at least 125,000 Medallion Qualification Miles or 140 Medallion Qualification Segments and spend $30000 on annual Medallion Qualification Dollars in a given year.

A VIP member will be assured of a place on a first-come, first-served basis in any Sky Club, irrespective of this paragraph. This is because when a club is at its full capacity, the VIPs have the authority to remove other people. They’ll also be given guest passes four times instead of twice a year, as well as reservations to VIP sections of clubs that come with free premium drinks and food.

Restrictions on Guests

Effective January 1, 2024, Diamond and Platinum Medallion members are now eligible for only two complimentary guest passes per account, as opposed to four. Gold Medallion members will continue receiving two passes, while on the other hand, Silver Medallion members will be denied any guest passes. These changes assist in reducing overcrowding from excess guest visitors coming to these places.

Further, the house charge for bringing paid guests will also rise from $39 to $50 per visit. Delta thinks that these measures will help reduce overcrowding of the Sky Club with non-member guests.

Some of the benefits that had been offered in the past to the members of the club have been withdrawn, particularly when it comes to lounge access.

In another way in which Delta will limit crowding, it will manage Sky Club access to specific groups during busy times. For instance, foreign passengers who have booked themselves on the respective Delta flight through business class tickets on partner airlines will not be allowed free access before 2 PM from Monday to Friday. Likewise, ticket holders with Delta One tickets will be granted full-day access, while those with Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates will only be granted access at or after 3 in the afternoon.

Also, Delta will end or limit Sky Club access through Air France or Virgin Australia elite status from now up to 2024. These changes affect client segments that cause congestion in the lounge, particularly during peak hours.

New Clubs and Improving the Food Menu

Still, it is not all cutbacks in 2024, though, that makes the issue rather complicated and not very easy to let go of. Delta also revealed some great expansion initiatives, which include the launch of the new Sky Club in Austin, Sacramento, and Orange County. Delta will also improve the variety of food options available in many clubs by increasing hot and cold meal options through new catering suppliers and brands.

Delta still spends significant amounts of money on Sky Club experience, as evidenced by the recent renovations of some clubs in Atlanta, New York, and Seattle. These older clubs are now more inclusive, possessing additional seating areas, shower facilities, and club interior designs that resemble hotel-like resorts.

Other Changes that Were More Intended for Capacity Management

Delta noted further amendments to the Sky Club policies can be expected in 2024 if the first round of modifications does not sufficiently reduce the overcrowding. Although Delta says such new measures are meant to maintain a premium ambiance in Sky Clubs, others believe that the new regulations are more about controlling densities than meeting customers’ needs.

The latest moves suggest that Delta is trying to find a way to accommodate the expansion of Sky Clubs without diluting the product too much and without giving too much away to mid- and especially lower-tier revenue-generating customers. Because limiting access for some groups contributes to controlling the number of people, only frequent users will be able to experience a comparatively empty lounge in 2024 and beyond.
