What are the seating options on United Airlines flights?
United Airlines provides the passengers with various types of seating in the airplanes depending on the requirements of the passengers. While selecting a United flight, customers can select basic economy, economy, Economy Plus, Premium Plus, Polaris business, and United First.
Basic Economy Seats Basic economy is one of the cheapest forms of tickets offered by United airlines. These bare bones seats are offered on domestic routes, however, there is usually a constraint in the number of seats available. As with any basic economy ticket on United, passengers are not able to choose their seats at the time of check-in. United will pre-assign seats on the course of check-in, often in the back area of the economy class cabin. Basic economy passengers cannot bring a full-size carry-on bag on board, only a personal item that fits under the seat in front of you. This means that the in-flight entertainment and getting the chance to upgrade are some of the options that are not available to passengers with a basic economy ticket. A standard economy class seat along with some extra features can be selected at the time of check-in if available at an extra cost.
Standard Economy Seats United’s standard economy seats are one of United’s biggest offerings as they take up the largest part of the available seating in its planes. These seats have average legroom and are adjustable to different levels depending on the airplane model. Many of United’s economy products have adjustable headrests and, on longer flights, have seatback entertainment screens. It is possible for passengers to choose economy seats at no cost or have to pay a fee to get the economy plus seats with additional legroom. On longer flights meals are provided in economy and free soft drinks and snacks are available during the flight.
Economy Plus Seats United also has seats for those passengers who are willing to pay for more legroom known as Economy Plus seats. These are seats in the front portion of the economy cabin where passengers get at least 5 –7 inches more space than those in the normal economy class. Many Economy Plus seats also include adjustable headrests and on-seat entertainment. Bookings can purchase Economy Plus seating for a fee or gain free access if they hold Premier frequent flyer status. So, the complimentary food and drinks that are served in this class are the same as those offered in the normal economy class.
Premium Plus Seats On international long-haul flights, United has Premium Plus seats which are an additional product. This cabin is a middle ground between business class and economy class with added comforts. Premium Plus offers wider seats with at least 6-inch reclining facility and adjustable leg, foot and head supports. The seat pitch varies between 36-39 inches for enhanced legroom. Other features include adjustable height headrests, power outlets per passenger, seatback video screens with over 300 choices. Free of charge food is served for passengers accommodated in premium cabin and free of charge snacks, alcoholic beverages, premium wines are permitted. No flat bed seats are available here.
Domestic First Class Seats In the flights operating within North America, Hawaii and some short international routes, domestic first class service is offered. These are front area seats with available knee space measuring 37 inches. Domestic first class seats include deeper recline and adjustable leather headrests compared to economy. Almost all also provide power outlets and inflight entertainment via screens in the seat backs. Meals service comprises of quality meals such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, deserts and variety of breads as well as quality alcoholic drinks. From the economy to domestic first class it is possible to upgrade if there are available seats.
Business Class Polaris Seats United Polaris business class seats are installed across all the long-haul international flights that include United Airlines. These lie-flat beds are in their own little pod-like compartments in a separate business class cabin forward on the aircraft. Polaris seats convert into fully flat beds measuring up to 6 feet 6 inches in length. Cushions and mattresses were invented specifically so that passengers could have sleep on long flights. Other facilities that make long flights comfortable include adjustable armrests, personalized storage space, pillows and bedding, amenity kits, and over-ear noise cancelling headphones. The Polaris business class catering experience offers restaurant quality meals accompanied by wine and craft brewery beers. Another privilege that comes with being a premium cabin passenger is the privilege to use special airport lounges.
United First Seats United First is the airline’s premier service offering the best services to its passengers. Seating is in an area over the wings and is close to the business class only on some of the international long-haul flights. The new United First seats are fully enclosed, featuring privacy dividers and black outward facing seats with polished wooden panels and soft leather. Apart from lie-flat beds, United First has also free luxury bedding from Saks Fifth Avenue that consists of duvets and feather pillows. This restaurant specializes in multi-course gourmet dining, while premium wines and champagne are offered also. Ticket holders in the first class also have priority in airport security check and have their own lounges.
